the backyard hyacinths
are in full bloom. sun
spills on windows
& stains glass
blood orange. we
are just waiting
for the springtime,
for weeds to grow
out of sandboxes,
for the neighborhood
children to scrape their
knees on concrete.
we are waiting for
the tears & the band aids,
for the sun to set, for
the hyacinths to die
in stillness, beautiful
for a moment. here are
all the ways we fail
to be still, to accept
our fate. here we are,
beautiful for a moment.
